Sherbia Jones Celebrates Birthday
Barely two weeks after returning from John’s retirement party in Maryland we were on the road again. This time to “help” Sherbia Jones celebrate her birthday, because we didn’t think she could do it without us!
Once again, excellent food, “Southern” hospitality, and as difficult as it might be to imagine, more good weather. Dianne and I stayed with Ruth & Charles Mitchell, and as usual marveled at how she can prepare a complete home cooked meal in what seems like minutes.
The close to 90 degree daytime temperatures were accompanied by low humidity, breezy conditions, and plenty of shade. Sherbia’s guests included many of the same relatives that attended her brother John’s retirement party.
The long weekend gave Dianne and I time to visit relatives in nearby Charlotte and Lincolnton.
Sherbia’s friend Janis Johnson would not hear of us leaving North Carolina on an empty stomach (mine hasn’t been empty in months), so she and Joyce Morrison teamed up to prepare a Monday morning brunch that made us want to drive around the block and sit down at the table again.
On our return trip we took a small detour to visit Foothills Meats for some local meats and cheeses. So now we’re home again, full, satisfied and happy.
